Non-disintegrating theophylline tablets with a pair of opposite surfaces which are essentially flat and with a very thin cross-section, which have a high bioavailability after intake and display a relatively uniform release rate so that the dosage intervals to maintain non-toxic therapeutic theophylline concentrations in the blood can be up to 12 hours. Excipients or tabletting aids are unnecessary, but it is preferable to use very small amounts of tabletting lubricants in order to facilitate series production on a large scale.
