摘要 A process is claimed that makes the vertical component of a magnetic field in an electrolysis cell symmetrical, i.e., such that it has the same absolute value in all four corners of the cell. Each short side of the cell is provided with an electric loop that produces a supplementary magnetic field equal to the average vertical magnetic field on the short sides of the cell, but of opposite polarity, i.e., a counter-balancing field. Each electric loop is formed by connecting a branch conductor to the negative main conductor to the negative main conductor leaving the previous cell in a row of cells. The cells are used for Al prodn. of electrolysis of alumina in molten cryolite.
