The invention relates to a transmitter- and receiver-controlled locking device, especially an infrared locking device for motor vehicles, with a lock cylinder and with an infrared transmitter preferably arranged in a key and at least one infrared receiver as well as an electronic control device in the motor vehicle for controlling a central-locking system. The essence of the invention is that a contact connected to the transmitter is arranged at the key tip, that an associated contact connected to the vehicle battery is located in the lock cylinder, that at least one receiver is arranged in the lock cylinder in such a way that, when the key is inserted, it receives signals emitted by the transmitter located on the key, and that a coupling controlled by the electronic control device is provided in the linkage between the lock cylinder and lock.
