PURPOSE:To prevent an image from deteriorating, by providing an optical modulating means which reduces the strength of a synchronizing signal generating light beam while the light beam arrives at a photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam B oscillated from an image forming semiconductor laser 1 is reflected on a polygon mirror 3, and is scanned toward the longitudinal direction of a photosensitive drum 4. A laser beam B' oscillated from a synchronizing signal generating semiconductor laser 6 is reflected on the polygon mirror 3, and arrives at a synchronization control light receiving part 8 provided at the upper side above the drum 4. An output from the light receiving part 8 is inputted to a modulation control device 9. And the device 9 outputs a synchronizing signal to an image forming laser driving part 10. A synchronizing signal generating laser driving part 12 modulates directly the laser 6 so that the beam B' is scanned only at a part except the latent image forming area of the drum 4.
