Tetragonal zirconia ceramic - contg. titania and grain growth inhibitor

A novel tetragonal zirconia ceramic contains, apart from Zr02, 7-12 (pref. 8-10) wt. % Ti02 and a grain growth inhibiting and tetragonal phase stabilising additive and/or a grain growth inhibiting inert second phase. Prodn. of the ceramic involves subjecting the very fine grained, homogenised and compacted starting powder mixt. to sintering at 110-1300 deg.C. ADVANTAGE - The ceramic is free from severe strength loss caused by tetragonal to monochimc phase transformation at 100-400 deg.C and has mechanical properties similar to those of yttria-stabilised tetragonal zirconia ceramics.
