The pump has a number of pistons (5) arranged in a circle around a shaft (2) which carries a reeling disc (3). Each piston (5) has inlet bores (10) communicating with a disc space (4) coupled to a suction bore (7). A suction chamber (15), coaxial to the shaft (2) at the rear of the disc space (4), contains a regulating piston (17) displaced against the force of a spring (24) e.g. under control of an electro magnet, and co-operating with the piston (18) of a pressure-limiting valve (16). The latter piston (18) projects into a pressure space. It responds to an increase in pressure to move the regulating piston (17) into the open position.
