PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent foreign matters from being attached to an optical modulation element by capturing the foreign matters without using a sealed structure.SOLUTION: An optical modulation element unit 3 comprises: an optical modulation element 31 including a modulation part for modulating incident light and a cover glass 31a covering a light incident surface of the modulation part; a light-blocking member 32 arranged along the surface of the cover glass and including an opening 32a for allowing light travelling to the modulation part to pass through and a light-blocking part 32b for blocking light not passing through the opening; and a heat radiation member 36 provided in a direction different from the direction of the cover glass with respect to the optical modulation element. The light-blocking member has an extension part 32c extending outward from the cover glass and facing the heat radiation member. A first gap G1 between the extension part and the heat radiation member is smaller than a second gap G2 between the light-blocking part and the surface of the cover glass.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
