A method of skin whitening, comprising applying, to skin, a preparation that contains a compound having the structure of Formula (1) or a salt thereof:wherein in Formula (1), R1 is a formyl group or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atom(s), and R2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atom(s);
wherein the compound having the structure of Formula (1) or salt thereof suppresses endothelin-induced elevation in calcium concentration in melanocytes in the skin; and whitening the skin as a result of the suppressing.
