An integrated antenna node (IAN) for use in wireless communication in a communication system, the wireless communication involving a set of one or more uplink (UL) physical layer processing functions and a set of one or more DL physical layer processing functions, wherein each DL physical layer processing function included in the set of DL physical layer processing functions corresponds to one of the UL physical layer processing functions included in the set of UL physical layer processing functions, the integrated antenna node comprising: a receiver; a transmitter; a digital interface configured to connect to a digital link for electrically connecting the IAN with a main data processor; and one or more processing units, wherein said IAN is configured such that: as a result of the IAN receiving an UL signal, the IAN performs the UL physical layer processing functions included in said set of UL physical layer processing functions on said received UL signal, but as a result of the IAN receiving a DL signal, the IAN does not perform any of the DL physical layer processing function included in said set of corresponding DL physical layer processing functions on said received DL signal.
