Apparatus for machining an object 12 comprises a wheel 20, 201 including first and second parallel circular surfaces 42, 44, first and second rim surfaces (46, 48 fig. 2) extending from the circular surfaces 42, 44 at first and second edges 50, 52, a gradient of each of the rim surfaces (46, 48 fig. 2) having a radial component, the edges 50, 52 each defining a curved surface between a circular surfaces 42, 44 and a rim surface (46, 48 fig. 2). The rim surfaces (46, 48 fig. 2) and edges 50, 52 may comprise an abrasive material or may receive an abrasive belt 76 for linishing. The wheel 20 may include an aluminium hub and rubber perimeter. The object 12 may be a fan blade with a filleted part 70 defined between an aerofoil portion 68 and a root portion 66 and extending along a longitudinal axis 72, the apparatus comprising a controller (14 fig. 1) to control the orientation of the wheel 20, 201 and/or the object 12 so that a cylindrical axis 34 of the wheel 20,201 is orthogonal to the longitudinal axis 72 of the filleted part 70 during machining. |
