PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that when reading a laminate card consisting of a transparent part and an opaque part by a conventional image reading processor, even an unnecessary transparent part may be read, thus increasing the amount of image memory used wastefully.SOLUTION: An image reader including a sheet detection sensor capable of detecting a transparent sheet is provided with transparent part reading setting means for setting whether or not the transparent part of a sheet is read. Furthermore, the type of a sheet is determined from the length information, and the transparent part is removed from the objects to be read if a determination is made that the type of the sheet is laminate card, thus preventing problems due to useless reading. |
