[Classes 113 (ii) and 114.] A ship's stern post incorporates two fins 16, 18 which project forward to the greatest desired extent immediately above or below the propeller nut 14a and thence are directed backwards towards the bottom 19 and top 17 of the post where they finally die away thus approximately conforming to the trace of the propeller blades. The frame is provided with top and bottom lightening holes 22, 23, which are closed by front and back cover-plates 26. The whole stern frame may be made in two parts united by scarf 20, 21, one of these joints being in the upper half of the stern post over the lightening-hole therein.</p> |
