The invention relates to a method for controlling a machine tool, in particular a core drilling machine, comprising a motor for driving the machine tool, a control device, a power display, a gear mechanism having at least one first gear and one second gear, a first sensor for detecting the rotational speed of at least one component of the gear mechanism, and a second sensor for detecting the rotational speed of the motor. The method comprises the method steps: detecting a first rotational speed of the at least one component of the gear mechanism when the gear mechanism is engaged in a gear; detecting a first rotational speed of the motor when the gear mechanism is engaged in a gear; detecting the engagement of the gear based on a first predetermined ratio of the first rotational speed of the at least one component of the gear mechanism and the first rotational speed of the motor according to a lookup table; and setting the threshold value of the power display based on the lookup table corresponding to the engaged gear. The invention further relates to a machine tool for applying the method. |
