A method and system of seamlessly transitioning between first 132 and second 134 audio sections is disclosed, where each audio section contains an onset representative of a significant audio event, such as an anacrusis or downbeat. The method comprises determining, relative to a common temporal reference point, a relative temporal position of an onset in each audio section. Next, an assessment is made to determine which onset occurs earliest in time with respect to the common temporal reference point. A cross-fade is then effected between the two audio sections, at a rise of the earliest onset, so that the second audio section replaces the first audio section. The cross-fade occurs simultaneously across both audio sections. The audio sections may have been pre-categorised as belonging to a common contextual theme. The method may be used to synchronise audio to real-world events such as providing a suitable audio soundtrack in exercise classes such as spinning, or to accompany video data. Claims to onset presence determination, an auditory augmentation system, and audio splicing are also disclosed. |
