PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a castable refractory containing carbon. CONSTITUTION:The objective castable refractory containing carbon consists essentially of 1-20 pts.wt. carbon and the remainder of one or more selected from alumina, spinel and magnesia. In this castable refractory, 100 pts.wt. refractory aggregate is blended with 0.5-10 pts.wt. light burnt magnesia having surface properties of 5-50mg iodine/g expressed in terms of iodine adsorption and further <=5 pts.wt. glass powder. The oxidation of carbon which is recognized in a conventional material containing alumina cement blended therein is not caused by blending the light burnt magnesia. The glass powder reacts with the light burnt magnesia to improve the structural strength of the refractory by blending the glass powder. |
