Optimising flow, i.e. performance/throughput, from a source to a destination, for example, in a Fibre Channel based Storage Area Network comprising paths made up of a dynamic number of plural logical connections. The method comprises determining an optimum segment size and whilst transmitting data using the determined optimum size identifying an optimum input transfer size (i.e. size of data requested from a data source read into a cache), then whilst using the optimum input transfer size identifying a second optimum value of the segment size and using the optimum input transfer size and second optimum segment size value for subsequent transmission. Whilst subsequently transmitting data using the second optimum value of the transfer data segment size the performance may be determined for different values of the input transfer size to determine a second optimum value for the input transfer size. The method may also involve convergence to an optimum transfer size based on measured path performance S4-S10. |
