摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying phenol, in which carbonyl compounds in crude phenol are hydrogenated by using a catalyst, the essential components of which are copper oxide, zinc oxide and aluminum oxide and the optional components of which are silicon oxide, zirconium oxide and gallium oxide, to convert them respectively into corresponding alcohol compounds so that phenol is separated easily by distillation while inhibiting disappearance of phenol and α-methylstyrene which are useful components to produce high-purity phenols, and thus the method of the present invention for purifying phenol has a high industrial value.SOLUTION: The method for purifying phenol comprises the steps of: bringing the crude phenol into contact with the catalyst containing copper oxide, zinc oxide and aluminum oxide in the presence of hydrogen gas to perform a catalytic hydrogenation reaction so that carbonyl compounds in the crude phenol are converted into alcohol compounds; and removing the alcohol compounds by distillation.
