A method of lining a tubular structure with a plastics liner pipe comprises temporarily reducing the outside diameter of the liner pipe by passing the liner pipe through a roller system. Once the diameter of the liner pipe has been reduced it is cooled and a thermal restraint is applied. Once thermally restrained the liner pipe is then transported to an installation site remote from the roller system, where the thermal restraint is removed and the liner pipe is installed in the tubular structure. The tubular structure can be a fluid transport pipeline. The liner pipe can be formed from a synthetic polymer such as a polyolefin like polyethylene. The thermal restraint holds the liner pipe at a temperature between -20°C and +10°C. The initial cooling of the pipe can be performed by the thermal restraint, or by quenching the liner pipe in a fluid such as chilled air or water. It can be transported in a coiled or linear configuration in a conventional refrigerated vehicle. Upon installation the liner pipe can be warmed to a suitable temperature and then pushed or pulled through the tubular structure, with suitable closure fittings applied to the ends of the liner pipe. |
