A portable terminal is provided, the portable terminal comprising: a flexible display unit including a main display area, a first auxiliary display area which is extended integrally from the main display area to be bent from a right side of the main display area and is smaller in size than the main display area, and a second auxiliary display area which is extended integrally from the main display area to be bent from a left side of the main display area and is smaller in size than the main display area; and a controller adapted to set an operation mode of the portable terminal to operate in one of a first mode for providing information on the first auxiliary display area and a second mode for providing information on the second auxiliary display area, and in response to detecting an occurrence of an event in the first mode, controls the flexible display unit to provide alarm information related to the event only on the first auxiliary display area, and in response to detecting an occurrence of the event in the second mode, controls the flexible display unit to provide alarm information related to the event only on the second curved auxiliary display area. |
