The disclosure subject matter is related to the use of citalopram or escitalopram, pharmaceutically acceptable salts or derivatives thereof, in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases that are positively influenced by the decrease of protein misfolding and/or aggregation, in particular by oral administration.
