[Class 41] [Also in Groups II and XXXIV] A bearing lining or intermediate layer consists of a copper-cadmium alloy, the cadmium content not exceeding 25 per cent., the preferred content being between 5 per cent. and 15 per cent. The thickness of the bearing layer may be between .0005 and .002 inch. The copper and cadmium may be deposited simultaneously in an electroplating bath, and may have a bearing surface of indium, or indium diffused in lead or a lead alloy. A similar surface may be formed on the steel housing to prevent fretting. The plating bath consists of copper and sodium cyanides, metallic copper and cadmium, sodium carbonate, cadmium oxide and free cyanide. Specifications 554,355 and 556,248 are referred to. |
