PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a development device which levels a surface of a developer, obtained after performing distribution thereof to two developer holding bodies, for a long period of time, and effectively prevents image contamination caused by adherence of the developer to a leveling operation member for the developer.SOLUTION: A development device includes: a first developer holding body 2 and a second developer holding body 3 which are disposed opposing to an image holding body 1 and rotate in the same direction at their mutually facing portions; developer supply means 4 for collectively supplying a developer G to the mutually facing portions between the two developer holding bodies 2 and 3; distribution means 5 for distributing the developer, supplied by the developer supply means 4, to the developer holding bodies 2 and 3; and leveling means 6 for leveling the surface of the developer G conveyed after the distribution by the distributing means 5. In the development device, the leveling means 6 includes: a rotatably-supported roll-shaped rotational body 7; and a rotational force applying part 8 for applying a rotational force to the roll-shaped rotational body 7 by bringing the developer G into contact with the roll-shaped rotational body 7 to thereby make a difference in a pressing force applied in a circumferential direction of the roll-shaped rotational body 7 by the contact between the developer G and the roll-shaped rotational body 7. |
