489,535. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. Dec. 16, 1937, No. 34879. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a spring suspension for a motor-cycle &c. wheel, of the type comprising a fork 3 pivoted to the main frame and controlled on each side by a piston 8 sliding, under the control of springs 14, in upper and lower cylinders 11, the downward movement of the piston 8 is damped by an hydraulic shockabsorber comprising an auxiliary piston 18 sliding in an auxiliary cylinder 19 secured to a sleeve 15a screwed into the end of the lower cylinder 11. Downward movement of the piston 18 forces oil from the space E in the cylinder 19 through restricted passages 22 into the space F in the cylinder 11. An unrestricted return flow is obtained through ports 23 and a ball valve 20 mounted in a sleeve member 16, which is provided with a screw-threaded extension 21 passing through a closure cap 17, whereby it may be slidably adjusted from outside to vary the size of the restricted passages 22, the sleeve member 16 being secured by a lock-nut 21a after adjustment. |
