Improvements in or relating to electric condensers

Each of a number of condenser dielectric plates to be sprayed with metal or otherwise operated on is located in an aperture 27 in a jig plate 26 and held in place by means of a suction chest 19 provided with a series of holes 20. A masking frame 22 placed under the jig-plate masks the marginal portions of the plates on one side, and a duplicate portion 30 may be folded down, after removal of the jig-plate, to register with the other sides of the plates. Pins 25, 28 assist in correctly locating the masking frame and jig-plate relation to the holes 20 through which the suction is applied. The masking frame may be of paper impregnated with wax and is caused to adhere to the plates by pressing with a heated platen 31. The whole assemblage of frames and plates is sprayed with metal by means of a spray gun and the frame finally stripped from the plates. According to the Provisional Specification the masking frame may also be of shellacked paper, and the metal coating may be applied by cathode sputtering or electrolytic deposition. The masking frame may be formed from a permeable material in which is absorbed a thermoplastic sealing material, e.g. paper impregnated with paraffin wax, and may be secured to the plate by heat and pressure. For mass production, an apertured suction chest is used to locate and hold a number of plates (see Group III), and two apertured masking frames which may constitute a single sheet are secured to the two sides of the plates by means of a heated platen. According to the Provisional Specification, the masking frame may also be of shellacked paper and the metal coating may be applied by cathode sputtering or electrolytic deposition.
