[Class 122 (v)] A water-cooled pump stuffing-box comprises a protective sleeve 11, carried by the shaft 10, and affording an annular cooling space 18 between the shaft and sleeve which is itself encircled by a stuffing-box bush 12 enclosing a packing 13. A housing 14 surrounds and is spaced from the bush to provide an annular cooling jacket 19 having inlets 20 and outlets 21. The space 18 between the shaft and sleeve is fed by cooling water from the boiler circuit through an inlet 22 and outlet 24.
