PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering betaines such as 4-butyrobetaine and L-carnitine from electrodialysis (ED) waste streams.SOLUTION: An intended betaine is recovered by treating electrodialysis (ED) waste streams comprising salts and betaines such as 4-butyrobetaine with a nanofiltration membrane. In a method, the membrane retains the desired betaine and minimizes a retention of the salts. In the membrane, a polymer membrane is made of a ceramic membrane and preferably fixes an organic solvent selected from an alcohol, a ketone, an ester, an ether, an aromatic solvent or a chloride solvent.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
