PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an amount of wiping members during maintenance without causing deterioration over time of a nozzle surface of an ink jet head.SOLUTION: A maintenance method of an ink jet head 72 has: a head movement process for moving an image formation position and a maintenance position bidirectionally; a wiping member running process for running a wiping member 112; a cleaning liquid imparting process for imparting cleaning liquid to the wiping member 112; a first wiping process for wiping a nozzle surface 72A of the ink jet head 72 with the wiping member 112; and a wiping finish process for adjusting a spherical surface of the nozzle surface 72A of the ink jet head 72 after the first wiping process with the wiping member 112. A contact area per unit time between the nozzle surface 72A and the wiping member 112 in the wiping finish process is smaller than a contact area per unit time in the first wiping process. |
