A multi-stage UCSRP process and system for removal of sulfur from an HS-containing gaseous stream in which the gaseous stream is divided into a main gas stream and a bypass gas stream; the main gas stream which contains a first amount of HS, is provided to a first stage UCSRP reactor vessel operating in an excess SOmode at a first amount of SO, producing elemental sulfur and an effluent gas having a reduced amount of SO; the effluent gas is mixed with the bypass gas stream, and said effluent gas and the bypass gas stream are provided to a second stage UCSRP reactor vessel operating in an excess HS mode, producing a product gas having an amount of said HS less than said first amount of HS. |
