A light emitting diode includes a substrate, a first semiconductor layer, an active layer, a second semiconductor layer, a first electrode, and a second electrode. The first semiconductor layer, the active layer, and the second semiconductor layer are orderly stacked on the substrate. The first electrode is electrically connected to the first semiconductor layer. The second electrode electrically is connected to the second semiconductor layer. The substrate has a number of three-dimensional nano-structures, and each of the number of three-dimensional nano-structures has a stepped structure.

1. A light emitting diode, comprising:
a substrate; a first semiconductor layer; an active layer; a second semiconductor layer; a first electrode electrically connected to the first semiconductor layer; and a second electrode electrically connected to the second semiconductor layer, wherein the first semiconductor layer, the active layer, and the second semiconductor layer are stacked in that order on the substrate; and wherein the first semiconductor layer comprises a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface, the active layer is attached on the second surface, the substrate has a plurality of three-dimensional nano-structures, the plurality of three-dimensional nano-structures are adjoined to the first surface, and each of the plurality of three-dimensional nano-structures has a stepped structure.
