PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine that enables improvement of fuel economy and that can prevent occurrence of a dilution phenomenon of engine oil.SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine includes: a filter 17 disposed in an exhaust passage 11 of the internal combustion engine 1 to collect particulate matters in exhaust gas; filter regeneration determination means 30 for determining the necessity of a regeneration processing operation for regenerating the filter 17 by removing the particulate matters; temperature rise means 19 for injecting fuel to combustion gas to raise a temperature of the filter 17 when the filter regeneration determination means 30 determines that the regeneration processing operation is necessary; and a fuel container 18 for storing fuel. By using the temperature rise means 19, a first injection pattern in which fuel is injected in first injection amount per unit time and then injected in second injection amount larger than the first injection amount is intermittently repeated and the second injection amount is reduced as residual amount of the fuel stored in the fuel container 18 decreases.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
