A system for detecting a vehicle handwheel position is provided. The system includes a motor shaft including a first gear having a first magnet and a first plurality of teeth, a second gear having a second magnet and a second plurality of teeth, the second plurality of teeth meshingly engaged with the first plurality of teeth, and a third gear having a third magnet and a third plurality of teeth, the third plurality of teeth meshingly engaged with the first plurality of teeth. The system further includes at least one magnetic sensor operably associated with the first magnet, the second magnet, and the third magnet. The at least one magnetic sensor is configured to detect the positions of the first gear, the second gear, and the third gear. |
