[Also in Group XXIX] An air gun comprises a barrel 4 secured to a chamber 8 which is normally full of pressure air supplied via a tube 15 through a piston valve 19 having an inlet 20 to the chamber. A piston 31 operating in a cylinder 41 formed in a cover plate 40 is fixed to a rod 37 which has at its forward end a breech valve 32 comprising a piston 43 provided with a rubber valve piece or washer 39 and a piston ring 44. When a press button 27 is operated the inlet 20 is closed and pressure air passes via valve 19 through inlet 28, tube 29 and passage 30 causing piston 31 to move rearwardly against the action of a compression spring 42. The breech valve 32 is thus opened and air from the chamber 8 propels a rubber ball 33 from the barrel 4. A spring 23 returns the valve 19 ready for subsequent operations. An ammunition trough 38 is mounted at the side of the barrel and a single ball passes through a breech 48 into the barrel when a breech cover 5 is moved forwards bv handle 11. A bearer member 1 for the gun has a pivotal fitting 3 and sights 46, 47 are provided. |
