METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING ADDRESSES ON THE BASIS OF A NETWORK TOPOLOGY

A method which subdivides the Ethernet into hierarchical segments and nevertheless ensures the full end-to-end reachability is described. The proposed method is used to support hierarchical applications. At the same time, however, it is also ensured that streams remain as local as possible in order to minimize the mutual influence or mutual repercussions. It is also possible to improve the scalability of large Ethernet networks using the proposed method. This is in turn an important prerequisite for real-time data traffic to be possible in larger networks in automation.
