i) solubilizing a lignocellulosic biomass or polymeric lignin in a solution comprising a water-miscible ionic liquid (IL); ii) extracting the lignin compounds from the ionic liquid by contacting the ionic liquid with an extractant; and iii) separating the lignin compounds from the extractant. |
