PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which smoothly transfers a medium inserted from a second introduction port and inhibits the accuracy deterioration in detection of the medium inserted from the second introduction port, and to provide a medium transfer device.SOLUTION: An image reading device 1 includes: a housing 30 where a first introduction port 11, a second introduction port 12, and a discharge port 13 are formed; a first guide section 10 forming a first transfer passage P1 for guiding a medium SH inserted from the first introduction port 11 to the discharge port 13; a second guide section 20 forming a second transfer passage P2 for guiding a medium CA inserted from the second introduction port 12 so as to merge into the first guide section 10; a reading section 55 which is disposed closer to the exhaust port 13 side than a merging position J1; first detection sections 111F, 111R, 112F, 112R which are provided at the upper side of the first guide section 10 and detect the medium SH inserted from the first introduction port 11; and second detection sections 121F, 122F which are provided at the lower side of the second guide section 20 and detect the medium CA inserted from the second introduction port 12. |
