An illumination device 1 comprises a housing 10 containing a light source, typically an LED, and a power source, typically one or more batteries. The light source and the power source are electrically connected via contacts. Initially, a strip 3 of insulating material is interposed between the contacts. Removal of the strip 3, by pulling on its distal end 31, enables an electrical connection to be made between light source and power source, thereby illuminating the balloon 2. The illumination device 1 further comprises a flexible element 20 projecting outwardly of the housing 10. The flexible element 20 presents a significant obstacle to removal of the illumination device 1 from the balloon. The flexible element 20 has the additional benefit of reducing the choking hazard presented by the device 1. In one embodiment, the flexible element 20 is in the form of a disc projecting from the equator of the illumination device 1. |
