The invention concerns a method for controlling a power train (2) of a motor vehicle (1), said power train comprising an engine (3) and a gearbox (5) connected together by a coupling device (4). The invention involves the following steps: a) acquiring control parameters of the motor vehicle, including an item of tilt data (α) relative to the slope on which the motor vehicle is located, and a speed (V) of the motor vehicle, b) checking, on the basis of the parameters acquired in step a), if the motor vehicle is in a configuration in which overspeed is likely, then, if the motor vehicle is in a configuration in which overspeed is likely, c) controlling a change in the gearbox ratio or informing the driver of the possibility of changing the gearbox ratio, from a first ratio for travel in one direction to a second ratio for travel in a second direction, and, d) when the second ratio is engaged, controlling the engine at a predefined speed setpoint. |
