The invention relates to a method comprising, in a sequential and automatic manner: a) applying input alternating voltage signals of different frequencies between electrodes (E1, E2) in contact and/or inserted in a sample of fibrous material (M); b) obtaining a plurality of values of the current circulating through the sample (M); c) calculating the equivalent electrical resistance of the sample (M) from the application of a statistical function to at least two of the current values obtained in b) and/or to values calculated from same; and d) determining the degree of humidity of the sample (M), by means of calculation, from the equivalent electrical resistance value determined. The system and the computer program are both suitable for implementing the method of the invention.
