PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which avoids a drive stop in a valve overlap period, and can improve stability at a start.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine, an intake cam 140 and an exhaust cam 142 are arranged at cam shafts 130, 132, an intake valve 112 opens and closes an intake port 108a by the turning power of the intake cam, an exhaust valve 114 opens and closes an exhaust port 110a by the rotational power of the exhaust cam, and when rotational angles of the cam shafts are within an overlap period, both the intake valve and the exhaust valve are brought into valve-opened states. The internal combustion engine comprises a stop position control cam 152 which rotates integrally with the cam shafts, and a pressing member which makes a pressing force act on the stop position control cam. The pressing member makes the pressing force act on the stop position control cam up to an angle which is remote from the rotational angle of the overlap period.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
