<PICT:0787328/III/1> Printing formes or cylinders are coated in the vertical position with a colloid solution by withdrawing them longitudinally from a container into which the colloid solution has been introduced from the bottom and maintained at a constant level, and subjecting them at their freed ends to heat. As shown, an impression cylinder 3 is placed in a tubular container 1 having a constant temperature jacket 2 and a pistonlike slidable bottom 4, through which passes an inlet 9 connected to a liquid reservoir 10 by a flexible tube 14, the impression cylinder 3 being secured to the bottom 4. The colloid solution is introduced upwardly from the reservoir by compressed air admitted through the tube 11. The inlet is then closed by a valve 12 and the cylinder, together with the bottom, is slowly raised, the coating on the cylinder being dried by a heated cylinder 8. The solution which is carried up by the piston is returned through the overflow pipe 6 to the reservoir, thus keeping the level in the container constant. |
