Provided is a method for treating water containing low molecular weight organic substances, the method being capable of reliably and thoroughly removing low molecular weight organic substances without performing biological treatment. A method for treating water containing low molecular weight organic substances that treats raw water containing at least 0.5 mgC/L of low molecular weight organic substances of not more than a molecular weight of 200 by passing the water through a high pressure reverse osmosis membrane separation apparatus, the method being characterized in that the volume of brine in the last reverse osmosis membrane module (5a) of the final stage in said high pressure reverse osmosis membrane separation apparatus is at least 2.1 m3/(m2∙D). |
