The purpose of the present invention is to provide a porous carbon material that has a high surface utilization efficiency as an electrode material for an electrochemical capacitor and thus can contribute to an increase in the electrostatic capacity and the development of high rate characteristics of the electrochemical capacitor. Provided is an electrode material for an electrochemical capacitor, said electrode material comprising a porous carbon material that has a common continuous structure part wherein carbon skeletons and voids respectively form continuous structures with a structural period of 0.002-20 μm.
