A method of one or more of, inhibiting motility, migration, dispersal, and metastasis of a cell that expresses an RPTP, which is proteolytically cleaved to form intracellular fragments in the cell includes administering to the cell an amount of an agent effective to inhibit one or more of the catalytic activity and function of the proteolytically cleaved intracellular domain-containing fragments of the RPTP.

1. A method of inhibiting in a subject one or more of motility, migration, invasion, dispersal, and metastasis of cells that express a receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase (RPTP) that is proteolytically cleaved to produce intracellular domain-containing fragments, the method comprising:
administering to the cells in the subject an amount of a therapeutic agent effective to inhibit function of the proteolytically cleaved intracellular domain-containing fragments of the RPTP, the therapeutic agent comprising a RNAi construct that reduces or inhibits the expression of the RPTP in the cells.
