PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a focus in a focus system by using signals of discretely disposed focus detection pixels.SOLUTION: Signals of pixels are acquired from an imaging device including a first pixel for receiving a beam passing a first portion of a pupil region of an imaging optical system, a second pixel for receiving a beam passing a second portion of the pupil region, and imaging pixels. On the basis of the acquired signals, a signal of the first pixel in a location where the first pixel is not disposed and a signal of the second pixel in a location where the second pixel is not disposed are estimated. An amount of defocus of the imaging optical system is calculated from an evaluation value based on a shift addition signal of a pair of image signals based on signals of the first pixel and the second pixel including the estimated signals.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
