905,382. Circuits for non-linear magnetic cores. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELEPHONES. Feb. 4, 1959 [Feb. 4, 1958], No. 3950/59. Class 40 (9). A magnetic amplifier simulating a centrestable polarized relay comprises two cores T1, T2 having similarly poled control windings I, III connected in series and oppositely poled windings II fed with A.C. and each connected in series with a rectifier to a common point K which is connected to the input of transistor TR. Fig. 3 illustrates the current/control ampere turns characteristic for the output from rectifier Rd 1 , Fig. 4 illustrates that for rectifier Rd 2 and, Fig. 5, curve S 1 illustrates the combined characteristic. When the current exceeds a value I o =(U o -U 1 )/r emitter current flows and collector current follows with the exception that it is clamped to a value IT =(U 2 - U 1 )/R when the collector potential equals the base potential. The resulting collector current/control ampere turns characteristic is thus, as shown in Fig. 1, the equivalent of a centre stable relay. The arrangement may be used as an " exclusive-or " circuit, the two inputs being fed respectively over circuits x and y, so that in each core the effects due to these circuits are in opposition. In these circumstances inputs of 0 and 1 or 1 and 0 on x and y correspond to points F or C respectively to give an output of 1. Inputs of 0 and 0 or 1 and 1 correspond to point 0 and an output of 0. The arrangement may be used to encode telegraph signals which are applied to one of the circuits x, y, an arbitrary sequence of 1's and 0's being applied to the other circuit. The same circuit may be used for decoding at the receiver. Several such coding arrangements may be connected in cascade. Specifications 791,372 and 803,290 are referred to. |
