The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a fault point using a protective relay. The apparatus for detecting the fault point using the protective relay comprises: an operation/non-operation recognizing unit which recognizes whether a protective relay is operated or not, wherein the protective relay is provided in a voltage transformer installed in each equipment busbar of a gas insulated switch-gear (GIS); a faulty busbar determining unit which determines whether the equipment busbar is faulty or not, according to the recognized operation/non-operation of the protective relay; a control unit which controls an input operation of a disconnecting switch provided in a normal equipment busbar in which a fault does not occur; and a fault point detecting unit which detects a fault point of a faulty equipment busbar in which a fault occurs, by recognizing whether the protective relay is operated or not according to the input operation of the disconnecting switch.
