摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for controlling a valve train of an internal combustion engine, capable of adjusting a clearance being a slight gap between a valve rod and a valve driving piston during valve closing. <P>SOLUTION: This system for controlling the valve train of the internal combustion engine includes: a valve rod of an intake valve or an exhaust valve of the internal combustion engine; a valve spring for applying elastic force in a direction of closing the intake valve or the exhaust valve to the valve rod; a valve driving piston capable of driving the intake valve or the exhaust valve and reciprocated by the driving force in a valve driving cylinder; a valve driving piston displacement detection means for detecting displacement of the valve driving piston; and a driving force control mechanism for performing driving force control in the valve driving cylinder. By the driving force control mechanism, the valve driving piston is operated by the driving force smaller than the elastic force applied to the valve rod by the valve spring.
