Disclosed is a memory device having an error notification function. The memory device having an error notification function comprises: an ECC engine detecting and correcting an error bit by performing an ECC operation on data of the plurality of memory cells; and an error notification unit outputting an error signal according to the ECC operation. The ECC engine outputs an error address corresponding to the error bit corrected by the ECC operation, and outputs an ECC flag signal each time an error bit is detected and corrected. The error notification unit compares the error address with existing defective cell information, and outputs an error signal if not consistent as a result of the comparison. The error notification unit outputs an error signal if the number of ECC operations generated from the counted ECC flag signal exceeds the maximum number of ECC operations, and outputs the number of ECC operations during an error monitoring time.
