A process for the thermal regeneration of absorptively/adsorptively-contaminated bulk materials (I) by passing (I) downwards through a multi-stage closed regeneration reactor with indirectly-heated regeneration tubes in series for the heat-up stage, optionally a main or further degassing stage and indirectly-cooled cooling tubes in series for the cooling stage, involves using additional heating and/or cooling by passing contact gas through the inside of the tubes filled with (I). An independent claim is also included for a device for performing the above process, comprising a reactor (1) with an upper input organ, a heat-up stage (2), optionally a main or further degassing stage (4), a cooling stage (3) and an outward transfer organ, externally-heated heating tubes (2A) arranged vertically in series in a heating chamber (2C) with heating fluid passing through the chamber (2C), through which the material (I) passes on its way to the cooling stage, and externally-cooled cooling tubes (3A) arranged vertically in series in a cooling chamber (3C) with cooling fluid flowing through it, through which the material (I) passes on its way to the output organ. In this system, the heat-up and/or cooling chamber(s) contain individual heating and/or cooling tubes (2A; 3A) or groups of tubes surrounded (with a space between) by gas diaphragms (2B', 2B"; 3B', 3B") or tubular jackets (2B, 3B) mounted between a common gas inlet space (8A; 9A) and a common gas outlet space (8B; 9B) which are otherwise fluidically separated from one another. |
