In order to enable a road vehicle to travel upon rails, guide wheels co-operate with side surfaces of the rail track and are carried by means mounted coaxially with the wheels but not rotatable therewith. As shown in Fig. 1, a pair of wheels 9 are carried by mounting members 8 upon a rod 7 attached by a tee piece 6 to a leaf spring assembly 5 carried by a box section member 4 pivotally mounted by trunnions 3 upon a member 1 attached to the hub of the steerable front wheel of the vehicle. An arm 14 fixed to the member 1 is provided with a bolt 13 by means of which the wheels 9 may be urged against the rail surface. A similar mounting is provided for wheels 11 associated with the non- steerable rear wheels and the two mountings are connected by a telescopic rod 10, 7a provided with a fork joint 12 whose axis is parallel to the mounting 4, 5 so that the wheels 9 and 11 are prevented from rotating with the road wheels but which allows steering movement of the front wheels relative to the rear wheels. In an alternative mounting, Fig. 5, the wheel is carried by an arm 4 and urged into contact with the rail by a screw 13a bearing upon a spring device 15, 16 carried by a bracket 17 attached to the arm 4. The screw 13a is carried by a bracket 14a corresponding to the member 14 and in both embodiments the wheel attachment means comprises three cylindrical members 18, 21 and 22, the larger member 18 being attached by bolts 19 to the wheel 2 and supporting the member 21 by bearings 20.
